Mission

On September 24–26, University of North Carolina Asheville faculty will lead a cross-disciplinary, multi-day symposium to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene. Centered around the themes of “Remembering, Rebuilding, and Reimagining,” the symposium will bring members of the UNC Asheville community together with members of the Asheville/Buncombe County area to assess impacts, share narratives, explore historical contexts, offer scientific analyses, and showcase artistic responses. These conversations and presentations are aimed at furthering post-disaster research while celebrating interdependence and resilience within our community.

All on-campus events are free and open to the public, while additional evening and weekend special events throughout the city will offer further opportunities for expression, reflection, and connection.
